I have visited Brennecke's many times over the years. The latest visit was yesterday. To be honest, it was a disappointment. I feel like I ran into a situation where supply and demand issues were aggravated by greed.
As is almost always the case, the restaurant was very busy. It was also understaffed. No surprises there. Because they can, the restaurant has raised its prices to the point where, to be very honest, the experience was not worth the cost.
My wife and I each ordered the signature macadamia crusted Ono, normally one of our favorites. Unfortunately, while the fish portions were generous, the meager sides were unimpressive. For $46 a plate, our overcooked fish was disappointing. The delicious sauce helped but there was not enough of it top help with the dryness of the overcooked fish or the ball of rice that was included. $17 for a glass of average chardonnay pushed reasonable boundaries.
My wife and I agreed that, in the future, we will probably limit our orders at Brenneckes to happy hour nachos. Hopefully Brenneckes' management will recognize that price gouging and poor food quality do not pair well.
